Carpool is a one-off collaboration with our favorite local band, Poole. (we love these guys). It was an idea that sprung up during recording for our first album. We had talked about doing a split 7" for quite some time with Poole but decided instead to do something really fun and put out a limited edition Christmas single. The record contains four songs.
Two of the songs are our renditions of Heatmiser and Coldmiser, which some of you may remember from the puppet Christmas special "The Year Without a Santa Claus". It used to play on TV every Christmas holiday, but was taken off the air after some people complained to the networks that it promoted paganism. But you can buy it at Best Buy for about $10. Not that we are asking you to do so. No, RACECAR does not own stock in Best Buy. The other two songs are originals from both RACECAR and Poole. All songs are played by various members of both bands. This was about the most fun we ever had in recording and playing live. It was a give-away at the RACECAR/POOLE Christmas show at the Black Cat in Wash. DC. in December 1995. This was a fun show. We were all dressed for the holidays and had free candy canes and chocolate for the audience. We also had a raffle at the end of the evening. We gave away CD's, T-shirts, and a racing jacket with the Queenie logo sewn on. Poole gave away stuff from their label, SpinArt. We played first, then Poole , then Carpool. We had not practiced as Carpool and sucked. We couldn't remember how to play the songs. But the audience seemed to love it and everyone had a great time. How could they not have a good time? We were giving away free stuff all night long.
We also had a bit on WHFS radio station for their Christmas special, where we did different versions live on the radio. Below, we have who played on what songs. It's too bad Harry's brother couldn't participate as he is a great guitarist. I hope you take the time to listen in and get into the Christmas spirit, no matter what month it is. We still have a few left. If you are interested in the Carpool 7", check out the racecar stuff area on our web page. The Carpool 7" was recorded live with vocal overdubs at Poole Hall Studios in Burke, Va. in November of 1995.
